Hawkeye

Hawkeye™ boosts visibility and enhances efficiency of crane operators

Keppel LeTourneau has launched the Hawkeye, a PCM-SS crane cab specifically designed with the crane operator in mind.

Knowing that line of sight is critical for crane operators, we studied existing cranes and consulted their customers to develop an optimal design that would enhance the visibility of operators. The result is the Hawkeye, a new-generation crane cab that offers high visibility.

With large laminated safety glass windows on all sides, the design offers operators a 250⁰ lateral field of view, including an enhanced upwards and downwards view unhindered by control positions or crane boom.

The cab location has also been optimized to ensure that the operator always faces the load, thereby maximizing both the efficiency and visibility of the operator.

As some of the feedback from operators focused on operator fatigue, as well as neck and shoulder aches, Keppel LeTourneau fitted each Hawkeye with an ergonomically designed chair, ensuring that all controls are within the operator’s reach to maximize their comfort while not interfering with visibility in the normal sitting position.

Each cabin is also climate controlled with HVAC to improve the ventilation and air quality. Advanced controls and monitoring are also installed on the Hawkeye to enhance operator’s efficiency.

To cater to existing LeTourneau cranes in the industry, the Hawkeye is designed such that it can be installed on all cranes with minimal changes to the current design, which is intended for the PCM-SS model.

With a 60 year history of designing and building cranes for jack up rigs, Keppel LeTourneau is well suited to design cranes. Over 600 of Keppel LeTourneau cranes have been installed on rigs all over the world.
